Nanotechnology has a wide usage potential in aquaculture and seafood industries. For instance, production of more effective fish feed for aquaculture species by application of nanotechnology. According to the some studies, nanoparticles of elements like selenium, iron, etc. sources supplemented in diet could improve the growth of fish. New materials obtained by the nanosciences can be used in the different aspects of fisheries and aquaculture. The technology can be applied for use in aquariums and commercial fish ponds to reduce the cost of water treatment. Researchers believe that nanotechnology may have the potential to provide fishponds that are safe from disease and pollution. Another application possibility of nanotechnology is usage of different conservation and packaging techniques to provide seafood safety by delaying enzymatic and microbial spoilage. Nanofiltration and reverse osmosis processes is used to decrease salinity of drilling water which is used in seafood washing and processing. Nanofiltration makes possible to have a standardization of the water quality. Although nanoparticles are increasingly studied, little is known about their effects on aquatic organisms. Adverse effects of some nanotechnological applications on environment should be taken into consideration.
